Five Question Friday-- October 5th

I cannot believe it's already Friday! I may or may not have my Halloween socks on listening to the "Halloween Party" station on Pandora while I work. Nice visual, huh?

Nothing too crazy planned this weekend but I'd like to see the new "Pink House" all decked out for Breast Cancer awareness. I also desperately need the car washed inside and out. Need to find a good place!

1. What album/cd/download are you embarrassed to admit you have?

I'm not really "embarrassed" about any music I listen to, but maybe when my dad and I listen to college fight songs? He has had the CD for at least 20 years and it has all the popular college fight songs. We dance around.

2. What's one thing your spouse does better than you?

He's great at anything computer related. Unfortunately he's not a Mac person so he can never help me, but he will help anyone. He's also way better at being bossy to the dogs.

3. When do you start buying Halloween candy?

We don't really get trick or treaters! I love candy corn and bought some about a month ago and ate the whole bag in one night. Needless to say, I won't be buying any candy this year.

4. Family closets-- yay or nay?

What is a family closet? Sounds like an annoying idea. Nay.

5. Which home/cleaning chore do you hate the most? Why?

Hmmm. I really enjoying cleaning BUT I hate emptying our vacuum or sweeper vac. It makes a gigantic mess and I have to take 65 million things apart, it's never pretty.

How to Remove Wax From An (Almost) Empty Candle

You can imagine my devastation after noticing my "Wedding Day" Yankee Candle was not able to light anymore. :) I actually was a little bummed-- the wedding festivities are officially over

I'll be honest. I've dusted that table twice since we moved here.

I keep meaning to not throw out the jars from candles so I can turn the jars into something functional. It's a pretty simple process and from start to finish, it took about 90 minutes

I guess you can't tell but it was completely done-zo.

Obviously, the candle needs to be completely cooled. Take the top off and plop it in the freezer for about an hour or so.

Mine just hung out beside some Lean Pockets & fruit.

I set the timer because I knew I would forget about it and not notice for a while. It really needs to set, so  no amount of time is too long. Unless, of course, it's a year or something like that

Well, I should have actually pushed start, because I never heard anything ding. Around noon I walked up to the fridge and there it sat. Still on 75 minutes. Sweet.

When your timer goes off, get out a dull knife. I got out a sharp one and it was too flimsy to work with. I also kept hearing my dad tell me to "never cut anything frozen". He's right!

Start with the edges. Kind of like you're removing a cake from a cake pan. Slide the knife around. Mine popped off after about 2-3 minutes of doing this.

If you think it needs more time, pop it back into the freezer for an hour.

Voila!

Next I was careful and removed the sticker on the front and the sticker on the bottom.

It took a few minutes, but I scrubbed and scrubbed and all the soot came off! I was a little surprised, actually, because I was sure it was on for good.

Nice and clean!

At this point, I was wondering why in the world I did this when I had nothing to put in the jar. I figured something in my bathroom needed a home and I was right!

Isn't it cute?!

It holds a ton of q-tips just perfectly. Woo hoo!

When You Let Your Doggie Down..

Yesterday I posted that I was a mean mommie because I tricked the dogs after taking them to the dog park.

That was nothing compared to today. I feel horrible. I've told this story twice-- once to my husband and once to my dad and I still feel sick!

So picture this.. I'm on the phone dealing with a work issue while walking both dogs. I'm holding keys, two leashes, and my phone on my ear. There is a dog in front of us just dying to meet Cocoa & Oreo. I cannot stop and chat with the owner/dog, so we turn around and head back to our apartment.

Still with me?

The owner clearly didn't catch my drift and followed very closely behind us. Her dog is jumping and crying to meet Cocoa and Oreo. Cocoa and Oreo are excited, but they can tell I mean business and follow me.

I'm still on the phone dealing with this poor employee who is asking for a raise. "Sorry, I don't deal with that".

Cocoa gets so excited that Oreo gets jealous. He charges at her, spins around me, and they are growling and he's on top of her. Fighting. While I'm telling a guy he can't have a raise. My keys drop. I realize I'm being one of those idiots who won't hang up the darn phone and take care of her dogs.

Oreo is clearly in the wrong here (obviously). I am pulling so hard to separate them and I'm finally able to. The owner is still behind me. It's like when Jason from Halloween walks so slow yet he's always able to kill people.

I'm finally off the phone and we get into the staircase. I drop everything once we get inside and grab Oreo by the scruff of his neck. I told him that he was bad and that was unacceptable. Then I grabbed his chin scruff and I guess while I was moving my hands, he got crazy and attacked my arm. I grabbed his chin scruff again and said "Really?" quite loudly.

I was in so much pain from his biting my hand. Hard. I would have cried if I wasn't in the staircase and the apartment assistant manager didn't live on our floor.

That's when he looked me in the eyes and just shook. His lip was quivering. I about died.

He's still a little sad now but I've been baby-ing him all night (big surprise there). I'm usually not the "bad cop" but today I had to be. And I feel bad.

After having about 2 hours to reflect on what happened, I know what went wrong. I know I should not have yelled at him after the fact. I know dogs have no judgement of time and he didn't think he did anything wrong. If he was going to get in trouble, it needed to be immediately following his wrongdoing.

Just had to share. We are going to have a surprise visit to the dog park tomorrow I think. :) xO
